In June of 2013 I started making daily drawings – each day I would sketch out one thing in my immediate surroundings.
At about that same time I developed a habit of journaling – each morning I poured my thoughts onto the pages of a notebook.
I’m now combining those sketches with excerpts from the journal and a year-after-the-fact perspective to share my struggles and small successes along the way to becoming an artist - a title that I’m working to live up to and a career that I happened upon by accident.
Here are a few of the drawings and journal excerpts included in the book:
This is the first installment of an ongoing series. It is a recounting of my first three months of floundering after quitting my job as a substitute teacher and jumping full-time into an independent career as a sketcher of ideas.
This book is a conversation with myself (past, present, and future), but I hope it also starts a conversation between you and I. I’m documenting my life as a way to live my own more intentionally, but also so that I can hear how others are living theirs.
So join in on this ongoing conversation about the search for a fulfilling life.
